Our mission
About Makao
To be the operational system of record for property in Africa — bringing verified identity, structured agreements, automated payments, and a full audit trail to every deal, for everyone involved.
The problem we're solving
Property deals still run largely on personal introductions and informal arrangements. Money often changes hands without verified identities, formal receipts, or a durable record to fall back on if something goes wrong. When a transaction rests on trust alone, the risk falls hardest on the people with the least room to absorb it — and everyone involved, owners and agents included, lacks the paper trail to prove they did things right.
What we built
Makao is not a listing board. It's an end-to-end platform that verifies both people and property before anyone transacts, then keeps the whole deal on record — payments and receipts, installment schedules, and maintenance — with a permanent audit trail and real recourse if something goes wrong, for owners, managers, and seekers alike. All for less than an agent's commission, with protection built in for both sides.
Where we're going
Starting in Nigeria and built from the beginning to grow across the continent — adapting to local regulation and payment infrastructure — with a B2B API layer that lets fintechs, legal firms, agencies, and facility managers build on top of our core.
What we value
Verification before access
Every person and every property is verified before they participate. Trust is established through process, not assumption.
Transparency as infrastructure
Audit trails, receipts, payment records, and dispute outcomes are the foundation, not features. Every party can see the record of every interaction that concerns them.
Accountability that travels
Reputation is tied to the account, not the transaction. History accumulates and works in the account holder's favour over time.
Access without gatekeepers
Verified property is reachable on merit — no connections, agents, or informal networks required to unlock it.
